Chapter 3: JOSEPH

It was a long walk from the doors of the prison to the bus stop. It was cold, not like the spring when he entered lockup. Putting on his track suit and running shoes, he realized how much weight he had lost, and how they were certainly not made for this weather. He had a funky, prison issued, hair cut and pasty white skin from way too much time indoors.

Chapter 4: BELINDA

The city was very hot the day Belinda arrived. . It was three O’clock in the afternoon Thursday. She had spoken to the older woman on the phone and was told she would try her out if Belinda could get there by Friday.  She checked into a seedy hotel across from the bus station, used a payphone and arranged to meet Mrs. Granger at nine O’clock the next morning.

Chapter 7: The Crime scene

The homicide unit was put on the case after a perfunctory look by the detective.

It appeared to be an easy enough puzzle to put together. It looked like a drug deal gone bad. Two bodies, traces of heroin; bag whatever evidence could be used to ID them and the possible assassins.  The coroner and her young assistant were checking bodies, when one of the dead started to open her eyes. The young assistant almost fell on her backside from her squatting position she was so startled. The puzzle now became a whole new game.

Chapter 9: WHAT DID YOU EXPECT

Jessica wasn’t hungry; in fact she felt like she had the flu. It wasn’t like her to call in sick but she was so exhausted she just couldn’t get out of bed and slept through the phone ringing. She slept through the doorbell ringing and when she finally did wake up, she could not get to the toilet fast enough.

Chapter 10: BEGINNING AGAIN

Gloria woke up and was advised she was being moved to another floor, because she was finally getting better.

Her mother had been basically living in the CCU since Gloria’s hospitalization. She was there when her daughter was on death’s door: there through the many medical procedures: and there when the police came to question her about the murder.
